Empowerment Towards Equality in Healthcare

The goal of this group is to create a safe space to foster knowledge and impart empowerment to the LGBTQ+ community in the healthcare setting. Some of the topics that will be addressed are:

• Advocating for yourself in a clinical setting (Your primary care provider's office, the operating room, the emergency room)
• Clinical resources (healthcare advocates/social workers/patient relations administrators)
• How to approach routine health maintenance (vaccinations, STD prevention and testing, mammogram, colonoscopy)
• Encountering acism, homophobia, misogyny, islamophobia, antisemitism, etc. in a healthcare setting
• Stigmatization of and support for drug use/abuse
• Stigmatization of and support for those with HIV/AIDS
• How to manage unforeseen emergencies
• Insurance and medical billing
• Outpatient Mental Health Care maintenance (medication regimen, peer support, psychologists, therapists, psychiatrists)
• Inpatient mental Healthcare (psychiatric wards/hospitals, inpatient care teams, pervasive stigmatization, gaslighting, and emotional abuse
• Mental hygiene (substance abuse, coping mechanisms)
